Where to watch the Red Sox in New York City

Matsui placed on 15-day DL
April 8, 2007

Yankee Hideki Matsui was placed on the 15-day DL on April 8, allowing him to return to action on April 23 (the day after the Yankees finish a three-game series at Fenway). Conveniently, Matsui will not have to face up to the scrutiy of a first MLB at-bat against Daisuke Matsuzaka. Instead, Matsui will be eligible to return to Yankee action the next day, and potentially face Mastsuzaka at Yankee Stadium April 27-29. In four games so far in 2007, Matsui has batted .250 with no extra base hits.

Matsuzaka is scheduled to face Seattle Mariner Ichiro Suzuki on Wednesday April 11, at Fenway Park.

Boston Red Sox baseball fans in New York City? Believe it or not, there are a lot. From the Dominican owner of the bodega down the street, to the Massachusetts transplant in New York City, to the folks who spent the best four years of their life in Boston getting their sheepskin then returned back to NYC a little bit wiser, a little bit more appreciative of what a great place New England really is.

So we come from behind enemy lines, in the thick of Manhattan and surrounded by Awful, Awful Yankee fans (I believe that's where Newport Creamery got the name for the frappe).

Sure, in the last couple years, the fair-weather Sox fans have been out of the woodwork in full force. Sure, it doesn't take so much courage anymore to wear Red Sox gear in New York City (believe us, in 2001, it did). Sure, it's slightly irritating, but hell, they're on our side. So we've been able to live with it (except of course in regard to the obscene ticket market).

In any case, please check back to this site -- in keeping with Red Sox tradition (at least as we were growing up), we will officially lauch this site the day after the Red Sox are statistically eliminated from the 2006 playoffs. In the nearly impossible event they actually make the playoffs (now how could that happen given the fact that they're shuttling off guys who are pitching great and most of them have quit playing), we'll figure something else out.
